Increasing reliability in mobile relay-networks with cooperative transmission schemes

In cellular mobile communication systems relaying enables cell-wide high data rates in a very efficient and cost-effective way. Relays decrease the effective path loss and can exploit diversity. Furthermore they can contribute to cooperative communication without connection to the backbone network. Within this project different access schemes for relay networks will be compared. Orthogonal access schemes like TDMA and FDMA on the one hand lead to simple receiver structures, on the other hand they require a cell-wide synchronisation including the corresponding signalling. Non-orhtogonal access schemes like IDMA avoid this synchronisation but lead to more interference and as consequence to an increased receiver complexity.
