Generalized Joint Linear Channel Coding and Physical Network Coding for Two-way Relay Channels

Authors: Y. Lang, D. Wübben Abstract: In this extended abstract we will present a generalized joint linear channel coding and physical-layer network coding scheme for two-way relay channels, where the source and destination nodes desire to exchange information through the relay in only two time slots. By slightly modifying the Sum-Product Algorithm (SPA), the joint iterative channel decoding and network encoding algorithm is applicable to any linear channel code, e.g. Low-Density Parity-Check code (LDPC code), which is characterized by its parity check matrix $\mathcal{H}$. In order to provide important insights into the proposed algorithm, we model the generalized joint channel-network coding as a dynamical system. Due to its efficient decoding, the proposed scheme is well suited for a practical wireless system, e.g. cellular network. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms other recently proposed network coding schemes with slightly increased complexity.
