Abstract: | Multiple antenna systems (MIMO) attracted attention over the past years due to their potential in increasing the spectral efficiency without increasing the bandwidth. Space-Time codes are a famous structure in MIMO systems. To use such structures, the transmission channel is usually estimated with the help of pilot symbols at the receiver. This procedure may lead to errors in the estimation, thus producing detection errors. This project deals with the effects of imperfect channel knowledge on the system performance. The bit error rate of the system is a well-known measure for such investigations. This project starts with a literature research, especially concerning multiple antenna systems and so-called space-time coding/decoding. Afterwards, an existing program has to be modified according to the receiver algorithms in a MATLAB environment. A performance comparison between perfect and imperfect channel knowledge for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) concludes this project. |
