In the optical community, OFDM has been proposed for high bitrate transmission over glass fibers, due to the ease of equalization at the receiver side. The large Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) however, is problematic for transmission, since it requires a large linear range, which makes PAPR reduction necessary. This problem could be circumvented by application of a Single Carrier Frequency Domain Equalizer. In this thesis, the applicability of the Single Carrier Frequency Domain Equalizer to Intensity Modulation/Direct-Detection (IM/DD) systems is to be investigated. Knowledge of OFDM is required, in order to reduce the preparation phase of the thesis, solid Matlab knowledge is desired.
