Abstract:

In the actual standards, like LTE, WLAN, DVB-T etc. the transmission scheme Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is used to combat multi path fading. To prevent the impact of inter-symbol interference (ISI) due to channel influence OFDM often uses a guard intervall with a cyclic property (cyclic prefix (CP), therefore the name CP-OFDM). This leads to an easy and efficient implementation of the equalizer as an one tab equalizer per subcarrier. OFDM is designed to be an orthogonal scheme, which is in fact only valid without no doppler effect and no frequency offsets. Another possible orthogonal scheme, which introdudes other filter shapes than in CP-OFDM is OQAM-OFDM. Here, more general transmit filter are possible, like e.g.: root-raised cosine filters. This work focusses on the impact of synchronization errors in both schemes. For that, a comprehensive study should be done to get an overview on CP-OFDM and OQAM-OFDM. Than the impact of synchronization errors based on interference evaluation should be done. After finding an analytical solution, and a verification in terms of MATLAB simulation should be done.
