Abstract:

A level-crossing sampler is a type of sampler that only samples a signal when an event occurs. The event in this case is the crossing of an amplitude threshold. This can drastically reduce the amount of samples to transmit, making it particularly useful in wireless sensor nodes, where power is limited. The task of this thesis/project is to extend an existing level-crossing sampler circuit, layout the PCB and test it.

Goals

  • Characterize our existing level-crossing sampler circuit
  • Extend it by adding more levels
  • Layout the PCB, preferably in KiCad
  • Test the PCB
The final objectives will be agreed upon in collaboration with the student.

Requirements

Ideally, you will have experience in the following areas. If your profile differs, but you are still interested in the project, please feel free to contact me.
  • Familiarity with circuit board design using KiCad
  • Fundamental knowledge of analog circuits, operational amplifier and comparator circuits
  • Experience in soldering
