Abstract:

Motivation:

There has been a growing interest in semantic and goal-oriented communication systems in recent years. This interest is mainly driven by the expansion of human-to-machine (H2M) and machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, in which there is no interest in following the current content-delivery type of communication, but it is actually the extraction and delivery the task-relevant information that has received huge attention. Thus, by semantic communication we aim to make communication systems intelligent, meaning that it needs to understand the relevance, urgency, and meaning of the data traffic in conjunction with the underlying task.

Objectives:

Considering the multi-task processing in semantic communication, the project aims at investigating the physical layer aspects for the case where multiple end devices want to perform their tasks in a cooperative manner. The investigation includes studying the adaptability of the DNN-based NOMA and tailoring it through semantic communication. The primary objectives are:

  • Adapting the DNN-NOMA for cooperative multi-tasking,
  • Comparing its performance with the CMT-SC architecture where the cooperation takes place at the Transmitter side,
  • Solving the power-allocation problem in NOMA with respect to the semantics.

Related Topics:

  • Task-Oriented Communication
  • Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA)
  • Optimization
  • Deep Neural Network (DNN)

Requirements:

  • Wireless Communication
  • Information Theory Background
  • Programming Skills (Python)
  • Basic Knowledge of Machine Learning
  • Being Self-Motivated and Committed
