Abstract:

The ISS has already exceeded its planned lifespan by several years. Efforts are currently underway to launch new space stations into Earth's orbit.
The ISS was developed in the late 1990s, when Wi-Fi was still in its infancy and modern wireless technology was not yet fully conceivable.

This bachelor's thesis will examine whether a WiFi system could be implemented on the International Space Station and what technical challenges would need to be solved.
Ray tracing methods under Sionna will be used to investigate the signal behavior of a WiFi system in a space station.
As an alternative solution, it will be investigated whether the use of a mesh structure offers better performance.

The person working on this thesis should have programming skills in Python and have completed the lecture Digital Signal Processing in Information Technology and Fundamentals of Information and Communication Technology.
