Abstract: We consider a multi-user Multiple-Input Single-Output downlink broadcast channel with Gaussian inputs using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing for the air interface. By applying linear preprocessing techniques such as beamforming at the Base Station, spatial information of the users in a radio cell can be exploited and multi-user interference can be reduced. The performance of this preprocessing depends on the degree of channel state information at the transmitter. To cope with the limited capacity for uplink signalling, codebook-based feedback in conjunction with chunk processing is suggested in the literature. In this paper, the information theoretic impact of limited feedback on the sum-rate of such a system concerning single- and multi-user beamforming with 3GPP Evolved UTRA parameters is investigated.
