Abstract:

More and more communication devices use hands-free equipment. Such devices have to cope with several problems. One of the main problems is the acoustic coupling between loudspeaker and microphone. The reverberation of the far-end speech signal is caused by numerous reflections of the sound signal at the room boundaries and the problem increases with increased spatial distance between the loudspeaker and the near-end user. Listening-room compensation (LRC) can be used to reduce the influence of the acoustic environment at the position of the near-end user.

In this thesis the LRC algorithms were analyzed. All LRC algorithms were realized in time domain. After LRC equalization unwanted effects in speech signal can appear, such as distortions and late echoes, e.g. In this thesis an evaluation of the speech signals was done by means of subjective listening tests. Additionally objective judgement of the same speech signals was accomplished by using the objective measures. The comparison of results of the objective and subjective evaluation involved some objective algorithms which could project well the results of the subjective listening tests.
